Hello, I got the three chicks a week ago today and one of them isn’t eating like the other two and it keeps having pasty butt. Every morning I have to remove stuck poop that’s not hard it just doesn’t fall off like the others. It’s not eating much and doesn’t have a full crop like the other two at the end of the day. I do have electrolytes in their water. Is there anything else I should be doing?

Is it lethargic at all? You could try wetting the feed to make a mash. Some chicks struggle with the dried crumble at first. Are you also offering plain water one the side? Too many electrolytes can nutritional issues and even kill them so they should also always have the option of plain water. For the pasty butt are you using a heat lamp? How far away is it? Also putting using some Vaseline or plain original neosporin around the vent will help the poop slide off easier.

Good information! I haven’t been offering them plain water but I will. I’ll also make some mash for her and move the heat lamp further away. Thank you so much for your help!

She’s not lethargic at all.
