I'm wanting to have a new coop built for my chickens and I'd like some thoughts and ideas to consider. Right now I have 13 hens and a rooster and their current coop is a converted metal shed that is probably 6' by 6' and about 7' tall. I'd like to build a bigger one so they have more room to roost at night. I live in the Catalina Mountains of Arizona at about 4550 elevation so our summers are not generally too hot and our winter temps can be down into the 20's with some snow. I hope that's helpful information for ideas and thoughts on the new coop. :)

You want the roosts to be wide, so the wide part of the 2 x 4 to Stand/sit on. Keep the roosts at the same height. If they are heavy birds, 2 feet high is all they need.

I think having one wall also be a wide door would be cool. So much easier to clean out, or if you have to go inside for some reason.

You would probably need 3 or 4 nest boxes, depending on how you notice they lay. I would also like to have the nest boxes on the outside. The door to the box to collect eggs to open on the side, drop down style. This makes it easy to clean out, and easier to collect eggs if your collectors are currently short.

Ventilation is everything. I don't think it gets cold enough where you are to worry about heat. They will keep themselves warm

Also, it would be nice if you put your location on the side there were the photo of your hen is.
