Hey y,all. We are Chris and Molly from just south of Atlanta. We just joined after a year of gleaning random info from the site. We are relatively new to chickens as we inherited a flock when we purchased our house a year ago. However, we've wanted chickens for a long time so they were a bonus to moving in. Sadly, we lost 4 of the 5 before we moved in to a predator overnight. The sole survivor, renamed Destiny, went to live a good life with the chicken tender at the time. We'll, we replaced them with 4 and lost 1 to a hawk. Quickly, chicken math took over and we now have 22 fully grown chickens and just hatched the 23rd 2 weeks ago.
We have Silkies, Silveruuds, Easter Eggers, Olive Eggers, Buff Orpingtons, Black Copper Marans, Midnight Majesty Marans, Sapphire Spalshes, a Lavender Orpington, and a Splash Ameracauna. The chick is either a Silkie/OE or Silkie/Silveruud mix.
We love the fresh eggs and the hours of entertainment they provide for our kids. We also love how the run and flock to you as you approach. We are experimenting with hatching another egg for a science learning moment. We currently have a huge egg on the incubator from one of our Marans because we are experimenting with trying to hatch what we believe is a double yolker.
We love to travel so chickens make pretty good travel pets. We have them on an extended feed and watering system, so it works well.
