Hello. New member here. I usually just read and don’t always contribute but figured I’d say hi in case that changes. I live in Western Illinois with my husband on our little homestead. Currently have horses, ducks, geese, cats, dogs, and my chickens.

I list 10 of my ladies last year to a raccoon and that left me with 7 assorted breed hens and a rooster named Regina.

Recently got 10 chicks from the local farm store and I do not think they are what they said they were so it will be a guessing game. Doesn’t really matter since they are my layers.

While up late one night I discovered d’Uccles and of course had to order some so I have 5 Porcelain in my brooder along with 15 assorted silkies because silkies are also super cool. Since chicken math is real and I lack impulse control, I recently ordered a dozen Porcelain and Black Mottled d’Uccle eggs for the incubator. I just love their feathered feet and tiny little bodies.

Anyway… hi everyone 👋🏻

Regina, the rooster, huh? Let me greet you as someone whose rooster, Moses, started out named Theodora and was expected to lay pretty Ameracauna eggs.

The love of feather-footed breeds and lack of impulse control reminds me of me. I think you are a great addition to this community:)

Welcome to BYC, and best wishes with your new chicks and hatching eggs!
