As far as I am concerned u got lucky with your RIR. I have had 4 now and every one of them are darn near rapist.
I LOVE my White Plymouth rock roos and they are good with the hens. They are a bit large however.
Best roo I have ever had is my Leghorn. He is wonderful, protective and VERY gentle with his hens. We call him foghorn leghorn. I like him second best as a roo that will get the job done.
The worst roo I have ever had are those bantam/half of a chicken roos. They are horrid little turds, most of them. I do have a few REALLY small roos and they are very nice, but hey you would be too if you were a third the size. The small roos tend to find a hen and stay with her. I have quite the odd couples and I do provide very small hens for the very small roos.
My polish roos are pretty big, as big as the white rocks now. I do not think they are all that sweet of a bird, but they sure are COOL looking.
I do have a NJG and a OEG roo. So far they are pretty docile, but spring is upon us so we will see.
