The kids have enjoyed playing with the baby. Poor thing got really lonely.

The meat chicks and a “free rare chick” that looks like it might be an olive egger came today… from Iowa… in less than 24 hours. 14 of 15 meat birds plus the free chick survived the journey. I’m getting ready to move them to the grow out coop once I get Thing 3 in bed. I’ve had the chicks in the incubator filling their crops before bedtime. Peepicheep (the surprise chick) was freaked out at first but is now much happier. It’s the whiter one in the middle of the pic with its neck stretched out.

I’m so sad right now. I meant to go back out to the coop 30-60 min after I showed the chicks where the food and water was this morning. I went out just now and 2 chicks were dead and one was mostly dead. One of the dead chicks was Peep. I feel so bad for the little booger. We’re going to have to have a funeral later today. The kids won’t let us feed Peep to the pigs and I don’t want to deal with it and not include them on it.

I am so sorry. :hugs

We held a little funeral for Peep and its buddy. Peep is the little spoon chick in the photo. Had the kids get some flowers and greens to bury with the babies.

The kids were all torn up for a bit. I let them hold the chicks’ bodies and pet them. Thing 1 kept trying to wake Peep up by talking and rubbing. But Peep was stone cold and stiff when I found the babies at 11:30 and we buried them at 5ish.

I think doing the funeral helped them come to peace with the whole situation.

Glad they made peace with it.

Hi folks.

DH and I castrated 5 piglets today. We have 9 piglets, 3 girls, 6 boys but one boy has an umbilical hernia. I’ve heard it isn’t good to castrate a boar with an umbilical hernia because they could bleed out or their guts could start coming out the castration incision because their abdominal wall is compromised. We’re going to make him and one girl with a weird belly button into roasting shoats when we do in the bigger pigs. From now on I’m processing at less than a month old. These guys are 3-3.5 months and we’re almost too strong to hold down.

On Friday we’re taking 4 of the boys we did today to Front Royal VA to sell them. We’re going to be staying near there to visit DHs grandmother on Saturday.

We’re doing well, the kids are doing well. I’m just starting a two week vacation. I’ll be doing SS administration stuff for the Adopted Things and just general home catch up stuff. We’ll be processing some roosters too.

Evening everyone 💔💔😭😭 Bob passed away at 4:18 PM today at Gallatin Hospital.
I want to thank everyone for the prayers today and throughout everything we've been through. Both our kids are here and I will share his service information when we work it out.
If I'm not making sense, please forgive me💔💔

RIP
@rjohns39 😭
