Opossum Attack!!! Thank you for all the replies...

It was an opossom! I destroyed the animal this morning. I think my rooster beat the crap out of the possum and prevented any other harm from happening to my hens.

I agree about the self inflicted wounds on the roosters comb. They will heal up on their own and just be scabbed over for a few weeks. I do how ever disagree with your habit of moving trapped coons to another area. They should be disposed of rather than becoming some one else's problem.

Well, I transported the coons because some of the local boys set them loose and let their coonhounds track them at night. SO technically they are being disposed of. I know have my pistol, and I will dispose of them :D

Good to hear. I don't enjoy killing something in a trap but it has to be done.
I called the Dept of Conservation and they told me to drown them.
That seemed cruel so I shoot them.

Yes, I agree! I'd rather see an animal have an instant death rather than a slow one. There is debate about horse slaughter being legalized again in the US. I was against it in 2007 before they banned it. Now I'm for it (1) IT will open up jobs. (2) Too many unwanted horses (3) Horse slaughter is illegal in the US but it's not illegal for american horses to be shipped to Canada and Mexico for slaughter. I'd rather see a horse have a bullet in it's head versus starving to death over a long period of time.

Also ~ stay away from anything with "pain killers" in them like the triple antibiotics with pain relief in them as they can actually kill your chickens.
