Also, if you use a dog kennel, please consider reinforcing the chain link with hardware cloth (hwc) up to about 3' high to prevent raccoons from reaching through, grabbing a chicken and pulling it through the chain link in pieces. Gruesome but it happens. Lay additional hwc on the ground extending outward at least 18" to form an apron to keep predators from digging under, and cover it with gravel.

Remember that chicken wire is only strong enough to contain chickens, not to protect them from predators.

I also suggest investing jn a dog crate

Dog crates are VERY handy! Instant separation space for any reason. Folds up and stores anywhere.

The answer is part of chicken math. Once you have counted chickens, done initial calculations, thought up some preliminary dimensions, considered a few design elements, you immediately multiply everything by 2.
