I’ve been getting orders for chicks again!
Spring in close! The two I’m breeding this year haven’t laid yet though. I’d say about a week what do yall think?

They typically start laying 6-7 months of age, and with the redness of their combs, I would say no more than 2-3 weeks. They may start laying at different times (usually a 1-4 week difference, with the lower side being more comment for me at least). So a week would be a good guess! Also: don't incubate their eggs until they have laid for 1+ months. This makes the chicks less likely to have deformities and they will have a higher hatch rate.

Yes I never incubate until eggs are being formed correctly and full size- thank you for that!

I just need a few people’s opinions so I can let my customers know an appropriate date. Thank you!

I have 2 BO hens, one started laying at 5 months and the other started at just under 6 months. Are either squatting for you?
You’ll have eggs soon I suspect!

They have squatted for their rooster- they have to be very patient with him as he is still mastering the “art” shall we say 😂

Thanks I do think eggs potentially this week if the weather stays nice

That’s unusual for eggs at five months are they the American version?

Because I’m from England and we’ve got the original breed and I think they take longer to mature but it’s always worth it!!!

Yes, sorry mine are American Orpingtons, I missed that you’re in the UK.
English Orpingtons are lovely!
Oh yeah they are beautiful fluffy big shaggy looking birds- I take mine to shows and I’ve won first a couple times actually- they’re lovely to breed but it can be tricky as you want to choose the ones to show wisely!
Thankfully I’m continuing on my grandmothers strain of Orpington’s so the ones in the picture above are the 43x great grandchildren of the original generation- so plenty of time to perfect their form 😂 ❤️
