Our DIY Rooster/Night box

I really like that idea. We considered putting it in a garden shed, but it was getting quite warm. I think timber does a much better job.

My next coop would have this box or something similar incorporated into it with a pop door into the coop, much easier way to do it as a package, was just out of our reach at the time we set out for this one.

Nifty idea!!!

Hi motherhenfran.

Sorry to hear about the grief from down the road.

The box is made from insulation panel, it's steel on the inside foam and steel on the outside. It did an ok job, but we added sound proofing foam to the inside (the egg carton looking kind found in music rooms) which dropped the sound level even more.

Fuzzy carpet lined inside timbre would do well too I think if those materials are not handy.

Just be sure to have plenty of indirect airflow to he does not get too hot.

Good luck, Ben

Thanks for your quick response Ben, do you remember what kind of foam? Also, did your roo pick as eat the foam on the inside (the second foam u mentioned, not the foam between the two metal panels) I was thinking the same thing about lining it with acoustic foam padding on the sides and ceiling and a fuzzy carpet on the bottom to muffle as well. I just wanted to make sure the foam padding/siding was ok for the Roos. I'm sure he'll pick at it over time from anxiety and I want to make sure it won't harm him. Thank you for all your help! Hopefully mine looks half as good as yours :)

Fingers crossed over here in CA,
Fran

Hi Fran,

Yes, the inside foam was just acoustic foam, the stuff shaped like an egg carton. Our boys had never pecked at it or damaged the foam inside.

I should probably add that we cleaned it out daily and during the day when there was no one in it would leave a door open to make sure it did not build up any ammonia smells.

@Bens-hens where did you get yours? I'm looking at places here (Santa Barbara, ca) and Home Depot has it but it's a big package and 200$. Not really wanting to pay that much if only going to be using 5 or 6 out of the pack of 12. I know the stuff isn't cheap but I don't want to buy a pre-packed item with double what I need (and double what I could/should be paying)

Perfect. I will show that picture to whoever is assisting me at the Home Depot/osh/supple store. Thank you so much!
