Our DIY Rooster/Night box

That was why I didn't use it in the first place, had concerns about him eating it.

The carpet we had in there was never touched, fingers crossed he leaves the foam alone too....that little bit cost more than two big bags of feed lol

Been a while since I have updated this thread.

Had to make some changes, mostly, as he got bigger, so did his crow. The box was positioned so sound was deflected away from the neighbours property, aimed towards our furthest (and most friendly)

I then upgraded the foam to proper sound deadening foam. This restricted air flow beyond what I was comfortable with, so a 80mm computer fan was installed and ran off a phone charger. Had it powered through the floor vent and on a timer.

We never received a complaint, and we live in suburbia. That is until we sold him and his girl friend as a pair, then one of the neighbours asked where he had gone..they missed his crow lol.

He still got out to run with the ladies during the day, let him out about 7:30 weekdays, bit later on weekends.

WIth only one 3kg Araucana roo, we put a divider in and only used one door. This made buying the foam cheaper, was still $50 though!

Hahaha, yeah I laughed too. I must say though, he appreciated not hearing him early in the morning, he just liked hearing him when he came home from work.

We have just hatched 27 chicks and I am certain one of the French Wheaten Maran roo's will be staying around :)

How is the box working out so far? I think it best to find a quiet rooster and work that line from there.

Sorry for the late reply, have been without net lately.

The box worked really well, was not soundproof completely, but the neighbors never heard him in the morning, which was the main aim.

We used our rooster for fertility as planned and then sold him with a girlfriend as a pair. The box sat empty for a month or so and then became a broody house used for our RIR who needed some space from the rest of the flock and somewhere low to raise her chicks.

I had that in mind when I made it as one door was left removable, so it is close to the ground with a small ramp.

Once she is ready to join the flock, one of those chicks will be spending the night in that box as we has a rooster among them.

Funny you should ask Lucas, last night it got it's first cockerel in a long time, and tonight there will be two as another little man started to crow today.

Has been working for us very well, not sure if I posted it earlier but we added a computer fan running off a phone charger power supply to draw more air through the box of a night time.

We hatched way too many boys the last hatch so we have a heap advertised before they all start singing at 5am!

Oh, have you since gotten rid of the last 2 rooster you had planned on keeping at the start of this thread?
Wow, you are very clever Ben. I would have no idea how to set that up.lol.
