Our first egg!!

I am just so eggcited to finally announce my Goldie Hen has layed our first golden egg! Not everyone can share in my excitement, but I know you all will. Goldie is an ISA Brown 17 weeks 5 days. She has been squatting for a week and decided the dog house was the place to lay. I slept in until 7:15 so she didn’t get let out of the run until later today. She was squawking something aweful. The other girls were eager to get their scratch I throw out every morning, but not Goldie. She ran straight for the dog house (she sat it in yesterday to check it out, she must have liked it) She began digging around and made her little ‘nest’ and after about 15 minutes I heard the most beautiful egg song I ever heard. Her first egg is tiny, but it is perfect. I had no ideas I would be so emotional over an egg, but I have been waiting 4 months for this moment.

My husband wanted me to move her out of the dog house. I was like ‘no way am I messing with her. He can have his house back when she’s done’ I do have another large dog house we may need to move closer to the coop. She may like it because it is so big and she has lots of room in there. The nesting boxes are much smaller.

My dog has been so good with the chickens. I was so nervous at first, but I think he loves the chickens as much as we do.
