Recently purchased this little girl at Rural King. I’ve had her for about a week. Last night she had pretty bad pasty butt. I ran it under warm water- and blow dried her. This morning it was back again. Not as bad, but still. Now that I have her back in the brooder she is just hanging out like this with her wings spread. She seems to be eating and drinking ok. I’m just nervous because I had this happen to me last week and the chick didn’t make it. I cleaned the pasty butt and the chick didn’t make it through the night. Are the wings spread a sign of anything concerning?

I agree that she looks hot. If possible, set up the heat lamp so that it does not cover all of the brooder and the chicks have a chance to get out of the heat.
Putting a dab of coconut or olive oil may help keep her vent slippery and stop the pasty butt.
You may have to treat a few times, but just keep with it and the chick should be fine :)

She might be overheated. Try pulling back the heat lamp or lowering the temp if you can. Pasty butt can happen often when the brooder is too hot and the fact that she's holding her wings away from her body is also a sign she is overheated.
Okay! Her poop is a thick white paste. I went ahead and isolated her to try and keep an eye on her. Im not sure if that was the right call. In the brooder she was standing on her own chirping extremely loud- which concerned me. Is there anything else I should do?

If the others aren't picking on her, I would leave her with them so she doesn't get lonely. Try reducing the heat and following the instructions on using coconut oil on her bum and feeding her wetted down chick food. Hopefully that will help!

I bought this at Rural King for a chick I have that had a massively enflamed and infected vent. Cleaned her and sprayed this ON(not in) her vent area twice a day and the infection cleared right up. Hoping this can help you.
