I was given a pheasant egg by a friend who was handed it at a garden centre. I just wanted to know how long I should keep turning it. I candled it this morning and can't see anything except black. A few days ago I could see it moving. I've only incubated quails before and wasn't sure if I should stop turning it today. It's in a brinsea incubator so I can't control humidity but have added some water to it. Any advice would be greatly received. I'm presuming it's a common English pheasant!
Thanks
Kirstie

Depending on what breed of pheasant, they take at least 24 days to hatch.Ringnecks, goldens, amherst, hatch in 24-25 days.I leave them right in the turner until the end, have had better hatches with it.
In N.H.,Tony.

I turned the incubator off autoturn and moves the egg. It was rattling/I could feel it tapping hard inside. So I put it straight back...that was a couple of days ago and I've seen no signs of it starting to hatch. Could I have harmed it when I picked it up?? I'm rather worried now. It's a standard pheasant egg found outside a garden centre so I get the impression it should have hatched by now? We are on day 23 to 24.
Thanks

I've had it at 37.5 but can't really tell the humidity percent as it's only a water dish type. Ive always hatched quails successfully this way. I think because it was moving amd has since completely stopped I'm worried I might have damaged it picking up the egg and moving it??

Moving it shouldn't have hurt it. Sometimes they just don't hatch. Not sure what country you're from (England?) or what kind of pheasants you have there, but here in America our common pheasants are ringnecks, and they take 24 or 25 days, so give it a few more days.

Anytime now, just don"t love it to death.
Sounds like everything is still a go and no harm done when you handled it.
There wouldn't of been inless you dropped it anyway.
Just remember that they are much bigger than quail so all the stuff that you use for your quail will only work for a little while (brooder).
Good luck.
