I would like to say I am surprised because part of me definitely is. On the other hand I knew if he was still alive he would somehow return. Happy for you back yard buddy. I have heard of similar stories from some of my fancier friends.

Seems like someone got him n kept him in, probably to breed, n figured after year he would stay at their loft. Lol
I'd get him a gf etc, n keep him wing clipped n or cooped up to breed few rounds there before letting him out again, Ashe may otherwise go to other home n get kept up again.

It was proven that one of the ways pigeons can locate their loft is by smell. During WWl WWll pigeon were house in trailers and used as messengers to the front line troops. Pigeons could find their loft even after it was moved several miles from their original position.

I had a feral bird I could tell was good homer stock that I robbed from a nest and hand fed to adulthood. I sold him during my teenage years. The bird was kept as a breeder for nine months. I told the fancier to never let that bird out. I knew he would never bond to another loft. He manage to fly 728 miles home after he escaped in 1½ days. He might have made it home in a day if pigeons flew at night or if he had escaped early in the morning. I think you have a bird of a similar bloodline. He is a definite keeper. Speaking from the knowledge 66 trips aournd the sun brings that bird will always have a special place in your heart.
