Pigeon Talk

No, not my birds! Ferals from the stables where our horse is. They were getting out of control and there was twice as many as that! So the farm owners called in pest control. Afterwards I only counted 6 birds hiding on the beams. :( Admittedly they were making quite a mess and pigeon poo in the horse drinkers was a big problem. But it seems they have returned! For how long I'm not sure. One got chased into the main barn above the horses by a hawk of some kind, so they are attracting natural predators too.
Ok. Are they all blue bars\checks? Any lost racers? It's a pretty flock!

I used this type of carrier to transport pigeons as well as chickens when when needed. I have a few or these in different sizes also.

If you decide to build a release cage, here is a suggestion (about cages) that some racers used to use.
Cage was made so top half would be completely lifted off, or hinged so when opened, the bottom half allowed all birds to fly up at same time.
That was the type they used for releasing pigeons for races.
You can do the same with the above carrier, by unsnapping the latches, and lifting off the top portion. I know there are also some screws that the edge has. Only needed there when the load, like a heavier dog, or cat would be the transported passenger.
I would just open the wire doorfront , and tap on the back portion of cage to give everyone the notice. Time to go.......:thumbsup
Thanks! So I know that you got out of pigeons after a predoter, right? Will you ever get more?

When I get everything all sorted out correctly, I sure would like a flock of white homers. Don't need racers, since no desire to do such.
Thinking of redoing loft to a freestanding one like Bio has. LARGE AVIARY INCLUDING. Present one inside garage created too much dust.:rant
I would do releases for Veterans, FREE (known or not known by me) and Weddings, (only of peeps I knew) FREE.
These were my last 3. Two hens and one male.:hit

They're lovely. I hope you get your loft sorted out. It'll be nice to see. I know it's not much use for you but another farm near me has alot of white ferals. They would be ideal for what you want. I was going to try and aquire a few squabd from the nests as they are within a safe height to reach but my plans for expansion are on hold for the time being!

That’s a fault. I wouldn’t allow her to breed... Unless she was hurt.

Yes, she was hurt. Her wing was't like the before and I don't know if she will ever be able to fly again. She can only get to the lowest perches.
The ash red bar is her son.

Thanks for commenting, I know nothing about faults and standards. Do you show birds?:)

I don’t show pigeons but I do show chickens. I kinda have an eye for this stuff. I do study pigeon standards a lot.
