yeah i see what your saying , maybe the buff orps are a key to the EE mix to get the pink eggs hmmmmmmm
......
man i feel a project comeing on now lol , ok everybody get your pens together and let get some mixes going and see what color eggs we end up with , so we can figure out the pink egg layer
One of my BO's lays an egg that is decidedly pink-ISH. I think the correct color name would be taupe. One lays a cream colored egg, one a medium brown and the other a light tan. The medium brown comes from my BO mix hen. I did have some EE's years ago that laid some very pastel pink eggs.
Ive been saying this for over 2 months now-if theres pink eggs that come up for auction that will be interesting because there are ALOT of us looking for them!
I have EE crosses that lay pink eggs. One of my mixed banties hatched some of her own eggs, fertilized by my EE roosters. Her eggs are of the tinted, off-white variety. Two of the hens that were born of that clutch lay green eggs and one lays pink eggs.
I don't know exactly what breed my mixed banties are, I'm thinking OEGB and silky, but they have to be crossed with something bigger, because they are not as small as a true bantam? My mixed bantams produced girls that look like EE's, just a little smaller, and they boys all looked like EE silky crosses, with five toes and crests! It was crazy!
I would suggest trying a mid-sized hen that lays light brownish or tinted eggs and crossing her with an EE rooster and see what you get!
Buff Orpington are still a brown egg even with a pinkish tint look to them.
I've seen pictures of pink eggs from EE's that someone had here on BYC.
Do a search and see what you come up with.
We have a Silkie/Americauna mix hen, lays pink eggs, she and her brother in need of a good home. PM me if you want to come get them!
When 7th grader gets home, I can ask him to post pics for you. Her eggs are medium sized. She is gray, soft and now some "partridge" coloring starting up.
I had a Splash Orpington who laid huge pink eggs. They were consistently a pretty light pink color. Sadly, she was relocated to a maximum security facility for violent chickens. But I sure miss those eggs! Hope you are staying out of trouble Aunt Bee!
My pink egg layer is a sweet thang. I wonder if anybody else's pink egg layers are also sweetie pies? She's soft, and quiet, and very gentle and girlie.
