Hi there!
I just hatched 16 of my silkies egg. 14 hatched, and out of the 14 about 9 have pink skin (toes, beak, and skin)! All of my adult silkies have black skin. I also have polish chickens, which they *couldve* bred with, but I’ve never ever seen my Polish even breed with eachother yet, and my polish have black skin, feet, and beaks.
I own no chickens with non-black skin.
I bought my silkies (the parents of these new chicks) as eggs last June, and hatched them myself. The lady I bought the eggs off of had about 30 silkies, and I think a few were silkie Cochin x.
Almost all of the pink skinned silkies are light in colour (white, paint, light partridge). I also believe they all share the same father, a white with a few spots (not a paint, more of a mixed colour). He does have a more blueish beak compared to my other silkies with blacker beaks, and he has a lighter mulberry comb.
Why are so many of my Silkie chicks pink skinned?
