I have 10 in the incubator that are ready to hatch and 8 more that are on day 12. So like an idiot I opened the bator to turn the 8 and I saw a huge pip in one of the day 24 ones - the sack was ruprured and I could sorta see inside. I closed as quick as I could when I realized it. But this morning there was no duckling and when I looked in the hole there seems to be a perfectly formed, but dead, duckling.

There are several other eggs with pips that have not broken the shell.

What (if anything) can/should I do?

Something that I did to raise humidity and help the ducks was get warm soaking wet paper towels and create little donut bases for the eggs that I then laid them in. This helped soften the membrane and they were able to get out easier. Are you sure the one in the egg isn't moving? Try shining a light at it. They can take 3 days to get out, so if it is still moving, all hope is not lost!

one of mine (all under a chicken) pipped and then didn't progress.....for over 24 hours. Finally after 30 hours we GINGERLY peeled shell off but left the membrane and sprayed and prayed. A bit more, spray and pray....spray and pray....finally after it had been working for 32 or so hours, I knew it was going to come out that night no matter what, but that it needed help. DH and I went to the store to get another bulb, since I could not find mire....and my daughter kept vigil.....and helped. It pushed out of it's shell just before midnight 4/20 surrounded by tweezers, scissors, spray bottle, towels and a heating pad.
I think Kiwi is a Cayuga.

She is totally fine. My daughter was very careful to check any membrane was not stuck to her before she snipped or chipped....and it was painfully slow....and she caught the whole thing on video!

The second pipped....then when my daughter checked, she had zipped. She ended up hatching in my hand, again all on tape. The last one I could not find under the chicken...and then there she was way in the back, looking exhausted but fine. She did it all on her own, and qui ck.
the last one was definitely dead, as we gingerly tried to chip away the shell we got no sound at all....Kiwi peeped the whole process...so I opened it up and she had yolk still not absorbed, but she did look completely formed. Bummer, she would have looked like Nemo.

So, they are all different in the speed they hatch, but I would do nothing for a while...Let nature do what it does.

anyone have a clue what the yellow one will look like?
My males are mallard, cayuga and rouen
Females are cayuga, rouen, blue swedish, and GH300.

Kiwi is black and Nemo (seemed to have a bum wing) is yellow.

How old are the ducklings on the grass? hey sure are cute. i have Rouen ducks a drake & a hen who has just last week decided to sit on her nest of eggs. I hatched 1 Rouen she is about 7 weeks old. i have 2 eggs in bator now they are Golden Cascade/Rouen mixed. they were suppose to hatch last Friday 4/22 but haven't yet pip, was just rocking. Been in bator 32 days. What was your humidity? Are you still hatching? Eggs in bator now? Good luck, ~Julie~

They were about 3 and 4 days old.....on the grass for about 2 minutes.

Then I whisked them inside again.

They are so cute! These were hatched under a broody chicken, and yes I have more under another chicken. i will post as they hatch. I took a video of them yesterday and will try to you tube it and link to here, so cute!

Well, I actually miscounted and there were 8 ready to hatch. The one was definitely dead. The other 7 hatched! I 'helped' 2 of them like bibkel said, chip, snip, spritz, pray, chip, ... One that I helped didn't have all its yolk absorbed, but I left it sit all night while the others hatched and it's as happy as the others, but oddly it has no yellow striping like the other ducklings. They are a scream! I have 5 more eggs that should hatch on cinco de Mayo if all goes well.
