Hi everyone!

Iam new to this website and I’ve found some helpful stuff over the wknd I decided to join looking for help and answers.

I have 2 beautiful roosters that have been together since I got them (6/7months ago) they’ve never gotten into it and got along just fine. So this Sunday I have no idea what happened but they both got out their coop and I looked around for them in my neighborhood until I found them a few houses down in a neighbors backyard.. one looked completely beat up I thought he was gone. So I brought them home and instantly started to clean them with warm water and soap. I also got Vaseline & Neosporin and applied them all over them. Gave them water and food & separated them. Well later on I heard them going at it again one got out and went to get the other one and this time he really hurt one of his eyes I believe because it’s swollen and shut down. So I’ve been cleaning it with terramicin and warm cloths and feeding him with a syringe water and pedia lite because he just seems so sad and depressed 😔 he does walk around but wants to be alone. He doesn’t wan to eat so I’ve been feeing him eggs through a syringe as well. What else can I do to help him? Please help and let me know that he’s going to be okay..I’ve also given him baby Aspein for the pain.

Welcome to BYC. Do you have any pullets or hens with them? Roosters even when raised together may one day challenge one another and if one does not back down, they may fight until they are injured. The two need to be kept separate in pens. The one may act really sad since he was beaten. That can be normal. It sounds like you are caring for him well. Offer him electrolytes or sugar water up to his beak, and dip his beak in it to get him drinking. Then offer some mushy chicken feed and cooked egg up to his beak often. I usually suggest using saline or an eye wash in the eye 2-3 times a day, followed by Terramycin. Make sure when swelling is down to check to see if his eye is intact and not blinded. Other wounds can be treated with saline, wound spray, and followed with plain Neosporin or triple antibiotic ointment. Let us know how he gets along.

Thank you so much for taking the time to reply. I guess the smaller one challenged him and it happened while they got out. But I have them both very far away from each other I have even been keeping him inside with me at night just to make sure no outside noise bothers him and lets him get more rest. I will try the saline tomorrow morning for sure! His eye is just very swollen on the outside I will keep moisturizing all that I can. As for the wounds I do spray him with Banixx I believe it’s called I got from the feed supply store for wounds, pecking sores all all other infections. I spray 2/3 times a day. I will try the cooked egg. I’m praying he’ll take some food tomorrow. Once again thank you and I’ll keep ya updated
