It was this website where I found the information about how Orpington chicks are sexed after I bought mine the other day, and I think I might have a roo. I bought 4 fluffy little chicks, two Gold Star and two Buff Orpingtons, all advertised as pullets. They are 3 days old now and of the 4 little yellow chicks, 3 have developed visibly long wing feathers but one of the Orpingtons still has
super stubby wing feathers. I think he might be a roo 😩
Pic on the left of the chick in question, pic on the right shows feather length on the other 3.

Feather sexing is not accurate unless specifically bred for it. Orpingtons are not one of those breeds. Besides vent sexing, the most accurate to tell gender of chicks is by watching the comb development. Starting around 4 weeks old males combs well start to become bigger and redder than the females of the same age.

Your Gold Stars are a sex linking hybrid meaning they can be sexed from birth by feather color. The females will have a darker back stripe and grow up to be mostly red. Males are lighter in color and grow up to be mostly white.

I knew about the gold stars. It was on this website that someone had said Orpingtons specifically are sexed by feathers and linked a youtube video. If its not true that’s great because I cannot keep a roo lol.

It can be true if they are specifically bred for it, but it is  not true of all lines of orpingtons. If they were sexed at hatch by professional chick sexers the chances of your Orpington being male is only about 10%
