Phoebe as well as my rooster and one of my pullets were tragically taken by a fox on Sunday the 12th. I am so heartbroken as Phoebe was just getting used to flock life without his momma. The only times the fox has come is when my dog was away and it was on Sunday I brought her to work with me at the dog kennel. The first time was on Sept 2 and it took our cockerel Plum, again when my dog was away at the kennel. Now, my remaining 2 hens are in the run and coop all day and free ranging when we’re able to be outside with them in the evening.

I miss my flock greatly, it’s so upsetting to see how much destruction can happen in such a little time.
Oh hunny, I’m so sorry to hear that! 😔

We live and learn. Sometimes that comes at a very painful price, as you’ve experienced. So sorry, my dear. There is much to learn with chicken keeping, and at only 15, I’m sure you have learned a TON in just the last month! That’s why I appreciate BYC - there is both support and a wealth of information here. Thank you for sharing. Hang in there. ❤️ You did the best you could for BB. And your last tragedy this past Sunday helps to remind us all how important it is to protect our babies from predators and the real dangers of free ranging without supervision. Make sure your coop and run are truly predator proof. I’m sure that fox will be back.

Moving forward, you’ll just have to pour all of your sweet love on your remaining two hens. (Lucky girls.) Tell us about them. What are their names, their breeds and how old are they? Pics would be great, too, if you have. :)
