I have electric poultry netting around my coop and I want to run power to my chicks' electric heat plate so they can move outside as they are outgrowing their indoor brooder. They only really need the heat plate now at night time and the coop itself is secure but I would like to keep the electric fence on as well to be extra predator proof.

I know you need to keep clearance between electric fences and overhead power lines but I can't find any information about clearance needed for regular mains power cords. Is it safe to run a power cord from the house to the heat plate and have it cross under the electric fence? Or will the two things interfere with each other?

I have a power cord running to a heat plate and under my electric fence, unfortunately I don’t run power through my fence and can’t help. When I turn it on in the fall, I would like to know the answer you will get as I will be in the same boat.

Just to update and let you know it was no problem. I ran the extension cable in under the fence. I just made sure the wires weren't actually touching and it worked fine.

Would running the extension cord through a section of electrical conduit where it crosses under the fencing make a difference?
I used an offcut piece of plastic guttering that my husband had lying around. I just upturned it and laid it over the extension cord where it crossed under the fence. I don't know if it was necessary at all but it made me feel better! I suppose an electrical conduit or anything similar and non conductive would work.

I have considered running cords through plastic conduit to protect them from the lawnmower instead of having to take them up, mow, then put them back.
That's a brilliant idea. The electric fence is new to me so I'm still figuring out the logistics of things like that but yeah, it is annoying having wires running across the garden!
