Our Cackle orders have always included at least a couple of extra chicks, and always of breeds we have ordered, not suprises. And they have been good about replacements if things go wrong too.

Well, the extras will live if they do well in shipping. They're just extra birds, that's it.

Usually extras are males.

As for how many, who knows. I've never got extra birds in my shipments with any hatchery, but some people get a ton

Anyone gotten the surprise box from cackle? What breeds/varieties did you get? I don't have enough room for that many but I'm curious, the reviews look good

Have not had the pleasure but I definitely stared at it several times while placing my first order last month. I'm glad to find this thread full of mostly positive things to say. I only ordered one group of four straight run, fingers crossed for 2 or 3 females

I just ordered a mini surprise hatch. (20-25 birds.) I just wanted to see what they would send. I have chicks from a different hatchery coming at the same time. (17 birds for the same cost, but I got to chose what I wanted.) My first time to Cackle.

As far as "need", hahahah!
