I have a chick that was hatched today. He has a protrusion which from reading I believe to be a navel protrusion. It sticks out about 1/2". and there is a hole there that is about the size of a q-tip end.

The protrusion has gotten slightly bigger from early to now. When she moves around or cheeps the protrusion comes back out. A bandaid wouldn't stick.

So... I've read oh it will dry up and fall off but there is an actual small hole there and does the 'navel' normall stick out this much and is there usually a hole?

I thought this particular chick was going to die this morning cause she had a hard hatch and isn't fluffing well. I've tried to clean some of the gunk out of her and have but still not fluffing so I must not have gotten it all. Sorry point was she is a fighter and has amazed me all day by not dieing. So is there a way like super glue to 'stitch' up this hole and should I? Would you assuming you want her to live and aren't culling for hatch strength?

tried poking it in with a wet q-tip. As soon as she peeps or move it pops out. Tried liquid bandage, it popped out. I think the tear/hole is getting slightly larger.

I've never incubated, just had a broody hatch, so have no idea what is normal and what should be left alone. But, if you're concerned about stuff poking out, you could try making her a little bandage with vet wrap, it would be able to go all the way around the chick, stick to itself, an might keep things inside. You could even wrap a coin in the vet wrap first then use the vet wrap to anchor it in place on the chick for extra "stopping power". Again, don't know if this would work, never tried anything like it, just an idea.

That sounds good does vet wrap not stick to feathers? I don't want to rip everything off when I get done but if it doesn't stick to anything but itself it would work great. She is still alive. Fluffed alittle, but still with the protrusion.

Where to buy vet tape? Petco?

Vet wrap won't stick to the feathers, it pretty much just sticks to itself. You can buy it at any pet supply type place, even Walmart, and it's pretty cheap, usually $1-2 per roll. Just be careful when you put it on, it does stretch so you want to make sure you don't have it too tight. It's really handy stuff to have around anytime you need to wrap a wound or anything else.
