Ok, looking for some clarification please. What is a pullet? Are they simply hens under a year old, or hens under a year old that haven’t laid any eggs? If the latter, what is a hen under a year old AND laying eggs considered? I’m admittedly a bit confused over the definition.

Hi! Any female chicken under 1 year is a pullet (whether it's laying eggs or not).

Any male chicken under 1 year is a cockerel.

Once they're over 1 year old, they'll be considered hens and roosters.
Thank You. That was my understanding until I read somewhere referencing the age and non egg laying requirement to be a pullet. Always good to get confirmation from others.

Ah. Maybe others will have different definitions but that's what I've always known to be true. I've never heard of the egg laying process to change the name. Just the age.
