Put whole eggs under tomato plants?

tomatoes are heavy feeders, so make sure you rotate where you plant them (new spot each year) and compost, compost, compost... and also, they love full sun and heat so make sure they get as much sun as possible. Also, the variety of tomato you plant makes a huge difference. There are hundreds to choose from. Hands down the best flavor in a tomato I have ever grown (and I know tons of people who agree about this) is the Black Krim, which is an heirloom variety, but you shouldn't have any problem finding seeds or starts. If you want to plant more than one variety, I have zillions of recommendations. I have grown dozens of varieties myself and have learned a lot from trial and error. Let me know if you'd like more info on varieties

I saw this post last night and ask my parents, who have owned a Nursery for over 20 years, what they thought.
This is what they sent back....

For years we have used a hand full of agriculture lime in each hole for planting the tomato- it gives the tomatoes the same nutrients and helps to prevent "blossom end rot" on them. So you will have big juicy tomatoes and you won't have the smell of rotting eggs.

thought it might help...

hmmm time to start saving the egg shells from the baking I am doing.
I am planting more tomatos this year than last. LOVE EM

I just picked up a gardening almanac at TSC the other day and found it to be very interesting that whole stone ground or horticulture cornmeal is a natural fungicide for all plants, keeps algae out of ponds and is a herbicide to your lawn when applied at the right time of year.

I'm gonna try it. Oh and I read somewhere that a lady in Virgina uses eggshells around her cabbage and cabbage-like vegtable to keep away worms.

i have put hole eggs in the hole with my tomato plants, also put shells or just broke up chalk like you use on a black board. i water with 1/4 cup of Epsom salt dissolved in a gallon of water, you can put it in a spray bottle & mist the plants (peppers to) for the magnesium. but then i'm an old lady & on 6 roma tomato plants last year i put up 110 pints of tomatos. that doesn't even count the salsa, & fresh 1's i used & some i gave away

I just tried this this year, tonight we planted 30 tomato plants 20 with whole eggs under them and ten with crushed shells only. I sure hope this works. We do ok with tomatoes in the past I just want bigger and better if at all possible.
