Questions?? Hen laid just egg yolk today!!

My barred rock sat on the nest for a good three hours today, then got up no egg. Then we found an egg yolk awhile later after my wife saw her sitting in a Tonka Dump Truck, of all places. Do we need to do anything? Will she be ok? Babe has been laying for only about 2-3 weeks.

Perfectly normal behavior out of a new layer. It takes a while for them to get the egg laying thing really figured out. Just yolks,soft shells,weird shells,double yolkers are presents that new layers will give you. I am sure there are other things too.

You do get the weird days you just can't explain. My 2 yr old Pr just started laying little tiny Poop eggs! Like she was a point of lay hen. Another of mine is just giving me jelly eggs with a paper thin shell. All the others that lay are giving normal eggs. It is just something that happens. You tend to get larger eggs with double yolks at the end of their laying cycle just before thay go into Molt.

Love your babe and enjoy she will give you lots of pleasure and hopefully more "good eggs"

Thanks for replies....I guess a little more normal than I thought. *sigh of relief*. Can't you just picture a hen sitting in a Tonka toy dump trunk? Gonna have to try and get a picture of that.

And just to follow up, she laid a normal egg today. Yipeeeeee!!
