I was sitting in my couch when i suddenly hear my ducklings crying like crazy. I am very attached to my ducks so I run outside and find a big raccoon running up a tree very close to where my duck coop is. I have two 8week old ducks and 3 ducklings that are 3 weeks old. The older ones were panting and it’s 65 degrees outside so definitely not hot and probably frightened.

I just finished covering up any hole that it could possibly get into.

Is there any thing i can keep to scare away raccoons? like motion activated lights? Please help I cannot let my ducks die. This is embarrassing but i cried i thought i came out there too late. Thank God i wasn’t. Please pray for a safe night for my ducks 🙏

Raccoons are annoying and can be dangerous. Remove all food in sight even around the outside of the house. Secure any small openings that it could fit through. Lights really won’t bother raccoons sadly. Tomorrow I recommend fortifying your coop. To prevent them from digging under... make a deep trench around your coop and extend chicken wire into the ground them cover it with rocks. I’m praying for you! I know exactly how you feel

Thank you so much. I wil put fencing down tomorrow to prevent digging. I did stop leaving food out. Looks like right now predators are trying to come after them. We had a possum trying to get to the a few nights ago it came twice but luckily the second time it came we were able to kill it. I didn’t want to kill it but it would of probably kept coming back and i didn’t want to put my ducks at risk. hopefully tomorrow i can make their coop very protective. I was thinking of getting a brand new coop but i can’t especially during this COVID-19 thing. I have lots of wood here at home so i will use that. Thank you! 🙏🏽
