Hello,
I had a chicken get attacked on Tuesday night and lost a wing and some toes. It is alive and was walking around and eatting/drinking. I've isolated it, clean it out and sprayed it with vetericyn and provided scrambled eggs, but since I've isolated it, it has not eaten or drank. It was drinking and eatting and even running away from me prior to me catching it and cleaning, spraying and isolating it. I've cleaned it twice now and the first time I just sprayed vetericyn on it. The 2nd time I did antibiotics cream and vetericyn spray.

What more can I do for it? How often should I wash it? I only washed it with water.

Thank you for any advice.

Vetericyn is okay to use, but for wounds like those, I would get some Hibiclens or Equate First Aid Solution (generic Betadine 10%) and use one of those half strength on the wounds. Then apply plain Neosporin or triple antibiotic ointment twice daily. Watch for a bad odor or pus and redness which are signs of infection. Look closely for any hidden puncture wounds. Keep her separated and away from flies. Keep offering water and some wet chicken feed plus some dry. Keep us up to date on how she is doing.

Cooked egg might also help make her feel better! So sorry this happened! Do you still have her inside? Make sure it doesn't get infected.

Something similar happened to one of my chickens a few years ago. Our neighbors dog dug a hole under our fence and attacked my chickens, one had a broken wing and large punctures. What we did was bathe them with unscented antibacterial soap. We also isolated them (of course) and gave them vitamins. They made a complete recovery.

Was the wing gone? Can my chicken live with a missing wing ok?

So the first time I washed it with water and then sprayed the vetericyn and then later when I washed it a second time I sprayed again and used double antibiotics ointment which was what I had on hand.
