The maggots can kill her, so I would use the permethrin.

Do you know how much I should dilute the 13.3 one I have?

Ok, so I let her rest a few hours and then put just a dab of the permethrin in a spray bottle to dilute with water. I filled the sink with warm water and soaked her foot and her wing as best as I could in it. About a dozen maggots ended coming out.

Then I took her out and sprayed the permethrin solution on. Then I did the Spurr solution followed by the vetericyn solution. She ate before I did this!! I offered her some of her normal feed but it was soaked so it was mash.

I saw a lot less maggots than before for sure, but before was around 8 hours ago and I did spend about 45 mins trying to manually remove as many maggots as i could under sink water. I know I missed some the first time around.

She is back in her new box and I'll try to leave her now until the morning. I feel that either the maggots are deep in her body now or most, hopefully all, are gone. Fingers crossed. I do feel like she is trying to live and fight this....since she did try to

My question: her wing bone is exposed ....is it better to amputate it so that not just the bone is sticking out? There isn't much flesh to cover it so I'm not sure how it will heal. Or should I just leave it alone and let it heal (hopefully) however it heals?

I’m more used to the 10% Martins permethrin, and that is 1 tsp or 5 ml per quart of water used in a spray bottle. That is 20 ml per gallon. The mixing instructions for 13% to use on dogs is 8 ounces in 16.5 gallons or 1 ounce to 2.06 gallons. So, I would use 15 ml per gallon or 4.25 ml per quart. Whew! Please check my math.

Others may have more informed opinions, but my immediate reaction would be to not do anything potentially traumatizing to her body while she's still in this immediate stage of recovery.

Ok....she was definitely eatting this morning. She ate quite a but of the mash from my hand. I still do not see anymore maggots....which I'm thankful for. I haven't seen her drinking anything yet but since the mash is her feed that has been soaked. I put more of the spurr solution on her wing and foot this morning. I'll wait a but before I put some more vetericyn solution on her. I think I'm going to alternate between the 2 solutions. Hopefully that's ok.

Question: Should I ampute her wing bone? I'm sure it will be extremely painful but I'm not sure how it will be able to heal on its own...since it's all bone.

What did you decide to do?

It can be hard to know what to do, but I'm not sure how well that will heal up with that much bone exposed.

Do you have an antibiotic on hand?

Thank you for asking. She has been eatting. I haven't seen her drink yet. I did see 4 maggots total since I've cleaned her, but they were not on her but on her bedding. They were pretty decent size tho. I saw 2, then 1 later by last one I saw eariler this morning I don't think was moving so I'm hoping all maggots are gone.

When I went to spray her eariler, she seemed to have more energy and tried to "fly" away from the sink back to the shower where her current home is. She seems to really enjoy the fresh corn kernels and mash.

Question is if she has an infection, how will I know and does this mean I need to clean her out again? her wing and foot seems to be drying out which is good??? I'm not sure. I'm just glad she seems more energetic.
