Racoon attack; wing torn and toes gone.

Where exactly are the maggots? Can you bring her in away from flies? Can you get some permethrin spray to kill the maggots? If not rinse the maggots off in warm soapy water. This will need to be repeated for the next 24 hours. Do you have any pictures or a video that you can upload to YouTube or a similar site?

I have permethrin 13.3....and a poutry dust. The maggots are in between the 2 broken bones of the wing and also on the foot. Does the foot look infected? does permethrin kill maggots?

She was fighting me a bit while I bathe her so she is still there.... but I wondering if I am just prolonging her agony? She is not outside.

She may be able to recover. What's hard is that you are having to do a lot of intervention, which I'm sure is causing her stress, which in turn is harder on her body.

If you've bathed the maggot areas in warm, soapy water, maybe dry her off and leave her alone for the night? Make sure she has some mash and fresh water and then give her some space and quiet to rest and regroup.

Flies no longer have any access to her.

So this happened at 3am on a Wednesday.

I didn't isolate her until 10am. When I noticed the flies a little later, I brought her inside...i washed her and put the vetericyn spray on her. I tried putting fly traps and a fan, bug zapper but decided to be safer and bring her inside.

I decided to wash her again around 7pm and put the double antibotics creme on her.

Flies no longer are near her. she was inside all night and I didn't get to do much today until recently when I noticed the maggots. I washed all the maggots as best I could but there are still more and sprayed the Spurr spray and she is back in the restroom. She has Gatorade and feed and water. i took the box away because I'm scared maggots might be in there. i will look for a box.

Can someone please tell me how I can treat for the maggots? I didn't get all of it. If a couple are left, is they determental?

You might need several treatments to get all of them. Letting her sit in warm water will drown them. You can use a syringe (not with a needle, just a syringe) to squirt diluted (NOT full strength) Betadine or saline to flush out the ones still in the wounds. At my grocery store I was able to buy a can of saline "wound cleanser" that sprays and I found it really useful cleaning out a deep injury.

I'd be airing on the side of using gentler products (like saline) because you don't want to put things on her that would make her wounds worse or cause her pain. Saline is probably the most "neutral" feeling thing. Even dilute Betadine can sting a bit.

Tomorrow after she has had rest, you can do another gentle bath in warm water. Obviously keep offering her food and water. I think you're right to swap out the container she is in on the chance that there were any maggots in the old one.

I hope she has a good night and that you also get a good night's sleep, given all the drama of the week so far. Sounds like you're giving her lots of love!
