Radiant Barrier Inside of Coop

So we used this stuff under the tarp roof of our run, and it made a 10 degree difference in the heat of summer…
Tell me more! We have a beat-up leaky tarp over half the elegant HWC “ceiling” of the run, and my order of a new heavy duty tarp just came in. Which way did you face the foil? (toward the tarp or facing down) And it’s just foil applied to some sort of plywood-like product, or is the insulation in there somewhere as well?

So we used this stuff under the tarp roof of our run, and it made a 10 degree difference in the heat of summer. But yes, I agree with the others that have said the chickens will peck it (and likely eat it). Maybe keep it on the ceiling if it's inaccessible.

If you can put hardware cloth over it, stapled to something else like the beams, to keep the chickens from pecking it without making it ineffective that might be an option.
that's an option!

If you want to try this, go with the radiant "bubble wrap".

So our run is just a literal cage (very much like your HWC ceiling). The specific product we used is called "radiant barrier". It's reflective on both sides, so it doesn't matter which way it's installed. If you have something one-sided, I would face the foil towards the tarp. This would (in theory) reflect the heat back outward.
