Raising Catfish in a barrel!! 11-03-2011 UPDATE!!

not sure if thisis the right place for this comment or not ut here goes. I have a pond in the backyard I want to put catfish in. But the pond is dirty. I put a turtle in it and I have not seen it since? How do I clean the pond to make it safe for fish and not so dirty?

Tks

Is it a natural or home made pond? Plants are natures filters. You may also need to step up or add circulation to the water, via pump, bubbler or fountain etc.

Ran across this thread today, very interested. Hoping to see updates on it soon.

Ok, I have been following this post and I believe you are taking the wrong approach. What you need to do is transition into Aquaponics. That is raising Catfish in a large container and growing plants on top. The fish supply the food for the plants and the plants clean the water for the Catfish. I use IBCs. There is a set of plans for doing this that can put you in operation for less than 200 dollars not counting the fish.
Here are a couple good sites to read about it.

Also check out this youtube video.

Barrels will work but the key is barrels, you must have several of them and feed the water between them. I have done that also.

Hope this helps.

The OP hasn't even been on the forum for almost 3 months, so I'm afraid it's unlikely you'll get any answers from him. Maybe somebody else might respond?
