Red Chantecler Bantam Project
We are working on a Red Chantecler Bantam project. We are using two separate matings. First is a Buckeye Bantam male over a Rose Comb Buff Leghorn Bantam female. We are also using a Buff Wyandotte Bantam male over a Buckeye hen. The chicks we have hatched are a medium red similar to a New Hampshire and all have a cushion comb. There is more work needed to complete this new variety; however, we would like some help. If you are interested, please contact us, but only if you understand that this is a project.
Our Leghorn actually lays a brown egg, so is perfect for this project. When you cross a Pea Comb (PP) with a Rose Comb (RR) you get a Cushion Comb (PPRR). So most, if not all, chicks from these matings will have a Cushion Comb. Type is still an unknown, but we will be close. We will take the best of the F1 and mate together to improve the type and color. We may consider an addition cross with a Partridge Chantecler Bantam with the F1 or F2. The photos are of day old Red Chantecler Bantams and an artist idea of what the Red Chantecler should look like. It should be noted that Ideal Poultry created the Large Fowl Red Chanteclers (we have some juvenile); however, the Red Chantecler Bantams are out of our top Exhibition Buckeye Bantams, Buff Wyandottes and Buff Leghorns. We have placed best of variety numerous times. We welcome you to join us in this project. Or at least to offer your input.
