Repeat swollen eye, possibly CRD

It would probably speed up recovery to have her on Tylosin or some antibiotic soon. Doxycycline, oxytetracycline, enrofloxacin, and dDenagard/TiaGard are also used for MG. Scrambled egg and her usual chicken feed are best for her. I hope that she recovers. MG is a chronic disease, and she will remain a carrier, and assume the flock is as well. You may see an outbreak in some during times of stress, such as during molting or extreme weather.

Hurray, my tylosin arrived today! I also ordered doxy as a backup. All the birds will be drinking the dosed water, which I think will be good as I heard one sneezing last night. Only 5 birds, none currently laying. I’ll keep you posted!

She’s looking better, less infection, more crusty than viscous and she’s acting more like herself. I’ll continue the tylosin for 7 days, cleaning her eye and using the terramycin, plus nutridrench in scrambled eggs. I’m hoping she continues her recovery!

6 days into her tylosin treatment, she has very little infection and the swelling is down. Of course she now hates me and runs up the hill to avoid me, but when she goes to bed, I get her cleaned up. I think it’s good that she’s feeling more feisty! Still can’t see her eye, I think she’s keeping the inner lid down still, would love to see her actual eye though

Sounds like some improvement with your medical care. Glad to hear that the Tylosin has helped. Hopefully, the swelling will go down enough to see the eye.

The swelling is mostly gone, she still has some weeping and a little infection each day, but I still can’t see her eye. Does this mean she’s lost her vision?

It is possible for chickens to become blind due to respiratory issues, so it is definitely possible. To be sure, you'd probably just have to wait and see. Glad shes doing better though!

She’s getting worse now that she’s not on meds 😞 she was on tylosin 9 days, and then probiotics 5 days, but now her eye has a thick infection again (the past three days it’s been getting worse.) do I put her back on tylosin? (That means they all get tylosin… none of the other birds are sick) is there a way to just dose her? I also have doxyvet liquid, might that work better? She still acts fine, feisty, eats and socializes with the others.

I wasn’t able to get all of the infection out last night, and today the eye was horribly swollen, solid mass of infection all over her socket. We were able to remove most of it with forceps, except just a bit right on her eye. She needs more medicine, should I give her tylosin or doxycycline? @Eggcessive @OrpingtonManiac ?
