I crossed my Rhode Island Red and Sapphire Gem and hatched some very good looking chickens.
This makes them 3 way hybrids and they look to be more durable than the Sapphire Gem alone.

Like most hybrids they matured fast and started laying early.
This cross will also produce some very good looking Indigo color.
I will hatch more this year.

Not that I could tell. I know the Sapphire Gem are supposed
to be but when I bought my pullets I got a rooster. This Rooster. I
mated him with the Rhode Island Red and get Sapphire color and some look black but when they get in the light they are Indigo.
I also mated my Rhode Island Red Brood Cock with the Sapphire Gem the and color stays about the same but something strange happend the second time. First time I used the darker hens and
all chicks were straitcomb and the second time I used the lighter
color hens and some was trying to be peacomb. I don't know where
that is comming from.
