Just another day with the flock. We have been very blessed. This is our 3rd year with chickens and haven't lost one. We are on 3rd generation babies from our original 6 girls, plus Rooster. We now have 14 layers and Rooster has matured nicely. He is a watchful watchman and good flock manager.

All Black Australorps. We will be adding 4 Blues to the mix in May. It will be my first time brooding day old chicks. All of our other chicks have been hatched and raise by a broody momma.

When you get your Blues,,,, and one of your chickens is broody,,,,,,,,,,,, slip the little chickens under surrogate mom. Much easier to let chickens raise chickens. JMHO.
Beautiful flock you have. :love

WISHING YOU BEST,,,,,,,,,,,,,,:highfive:

Yes. I completely agree. My reliable broody is a great mother. If the timing is right, that is what I will do. Not sure if I can time it to coincide though. I will have to order chicks now for May pickup (I don't want to have them shipped so I will make the 6 hour round trip drive to pick them up). We shall see. Thanks.
