I've grown quite fond of my 18 week old PR rooster. Recently he's been crowing more often and louder. My neighbor just called me and told me that the rooster is waking her up at 4:00 am. I don't hear him at all because my windows are closed with the central air on and an electric fan. I really had no idea that he was crowing so early. My neighbor sounded really unhappy about it. I like her and I don't want any hard feelings between us, but I also really like my rooster as my two young children do too who would be devastated if I had to rehome him. I have not yet closed up the windows to the hen house because it's still too warm at night so I guess the fact that I don't let him out till 8:00 am doesn't matter. Any ideas would be GREAT! Thanks.

I don't know how close your neighbor is,but They make a thing called a drop ceiling. The panels that make up the ceiling are soundproofing. There pretty cheap. You could try covering the walls & ceiling with it.

Mine crow at that time and I have four of them, but since it's a rural area and I'm completely within my rights to have them, it's not an issue. If people live in the country, they'll hear roosters. You could put him somewhere at night and take him out in the morning. I did that for a different reason that you have here, but my rooster became pretty resentful of being removed from his ladies nightly and bit me.

Hee Hee Hee, I have 11 BC Marans cockerels and one 6 month ole Black orp cockerel. And to avoid that phone call you got. I carry them into my house ( every nite ) where I have temporary cages, for them to sleep. All these guys will raise a racket IF let to their own devices outside. Luckily my wife ackowledges that the basement is okay for these birds to sleep at nite. Cause we all get sleep now. And like any bird, they are gettin use to the routine. You only have one. Work out a place inside, just for the nites. And I am sure everyone in your neighborhood will forget you ever had a cockerel.

Give him to a friend who will let him have visitation rights. Cause there is little to do. These birds will crow. That is part of the deal.
Good luck.
