My roo is very sweet. Hes in my pfp if you cant tell. Lets me pet him, pick him up, and stands right next to me. I usually give them day treats and dinner, but today i gave the chickens breakfast. When i was walking them over to the food, i felt something hit into the back of my leg. When i looked, my heel was muddy and he was just standing there, not agressivly. I asked my sister and she said he does that to her every morning. It didnt hurt. I was speed walking so maybe he just couldnt slow down fast enough?

Again, it didnt hurt. No blood, i barley felt him slam into me. He wasnt agressive after, and i was able to turn around and have my back towards him with no agression.. he just danced for his hen and blinked at me and then laid down.

Every morning i see him chase his hens around the yard, puffed out and low to the ground. Did he think i was a hen? He does dance for us.

Honestly, it didnt feel agressive at all. Didnt hurt, no blood, and he felt fine taking a nap near me afterwards.. so he obviously doesnt think im a threat. Im just super confused as to why he just kinda ran into my leg! Maybe ill get a video next time.

That's how my first ever attacker started, a brush at the back of the leg and the cockerel acting like nothing happened.. And was also the sweetest boy, until he wasn't.

He should not be dancing for you.. that's an indicator in my experience, of things to come. And *possibly* that he's imprinted on you as part of the flock and/or pecking order. It's a sign of dominance towards you.

Hopefully it won't progress! All situations and chickens are unique. It's certainly something to be aware of.

Howdy ! I have an Ameraucana rooster that used to be nice, until he turned into a mega jerk. Now he hates me. I mean pure hatrid. He only likes my wife.

I hope I'm wrong but just be careful around him as this could lead to more aggressive behavior towards you and other humans.

How long have you had him?

Regarding the rooster dance...

There may be some roos where dancing is worrisome, but it's not a universal. Whether that's a genetic thing or not, I have no idea, but I have yet to personally have a mean dancer. I have had 7 roos. 6 were directly related and I still have 5 of them, 1 is completely unrelated. All of them dance/danced for me as a greeting. 6 of the 7 related boys are/were safe around people, which includes the unrelated roo. There is one who is nervous and nippy but is an amazing defender and still a good boy with me (just not safe to be completely up in my face and more likely to spook around others).

When I read " mean dancer" that cracked me up. No offense. I immediately pictured an angry chicken dancing way too aggressively 🤣

I should add, he doesnt dance for me, he dances for my sister. Shes the one who has been petting and picking him up mostly. I mightve messed that up in my og post.

For the most part i dont touch him bc ive had bad experiances with roos. He just carefully watches me and i watch him, and give him treats to give to his hens

Weve had him for about 5 or 6 years , so i assume if he was mean he wouldve been mean by now. Then again, because hes so sweet he was put with our disabled hen and our elderly hen because if they didnt want him to mount or dance for them, he wouldnt (very respectful and good for those hens)

And then we had a 2nd flock with a more protective manly "i do what i want!" rooster, who died protecting his 5 girls from a racoon. (RIP Ruby)

So now buddy (kind roo) has all of those hens, plus a mama hen and her babies and a frizzle that we recently took under our wing.

So, all these hens and ladies being all over him is fairly new.. and i think he is just excited over it all. I noticed he started really paying attention to his looks- oiling his feather 24/7!

Up until now he had probably only mated 3-5 times in his life because he was just too kind to his girls. Now that hes with binky (the teen mom hen) hes doing better :lau So maybe thats why hes been acting coo-coo. I hope he doesnt become agressive like you said he might, ill keep a eye on him for now!

Sorry for the long paragraph; This is sorta a update post for everyone to see
