Rooster slams into back of legs- not spuring or pecking?

At his age I think it was an accident. A younger cockerel I might lean towards it being a test run to see how you react, but since you have had him for 5-6 years I would not think aggression. I had a rooster run into the back of my legs when he was chasing a hen. By the time I turned around he was booking it in the opposite direction like Forest Gump. It never happened again after that.

That's how my first ever attacker started, a brush at the back of the leg and the cockerel acting like nothing happened.. And was also the sweetest boy, until he wasn't.

He should not be dancing for you.. that's an indicator in my experience, of things to come. And *possibly* that he's imprinted on you as part of the flock and/or pecking order. It's a sign of dominance towards you.

Hopefully it won't progress! All situations and chickens are unique. It's certainly something to be aware of.
Absolutely right. And......those roos can really hurt your legs. (Been there, done that. LOL)

This is why I stopped making cuddly roosters. The ones that don't give me trouble are the ones that keep their distance from the beginning. I don't handle the chicks any more than necessary. They grow up, not afraid of me, but with a healthy respect for me and my space. I'm over having to swing a stick behind me when the flock follows me. They don't like to see their hens flocking with me.
