Roundworm in poop

So if you are positive that you say a roundworm in that poo sample, just treat for rounds. Maybe a light infection, or only a few birds affected. Good!
Run another fecal later too, as in a month or three.

I wish I was able to grab a photo! One of my girls grabbed it and took off, whatever it was wasn’t moving. So am I 100% positive ... I’m not sure. I don’t want to unnecessarily treat them, but I will if you think I should. Does it hurt to treat preventatively? Should I do it now and again in 10 days?

I probably wouldn't treat them, depending on previous history (if you have any), and maybe just run another fecal in a month or so.
A very few roundworms won't be a problem, just see how things go?!
Take this advice, free, on Dr. Google, for what it cost...
Sorry, I had to throw that out there too.

Dose for Safeguard is .23ml per pound of bird weight. 2 doses 10 days apart for roundworms, dose 5 days in a row for capillary or gape worm. If you have a digital kitchen scale, that will give you a good weight. So a 4 lb bird would get .92ml and I would just round up to 1ml. You can usually get 3ml syringes at Tractor Supply, most pharmacies have 1ml oral syringes, just ask the pharmacist. Egg withdrawl recommendation is usually 14 days following dose. 10 birds-piece of cake!! :D:D
Seriously, it gets easier with practice. If you have help, one to hold the bird, one to dose, great. If not, draw the correct dose (shake well before drawing) just hold them under your arm (left if you are right handed). Pull down on the wattles to open the beak, some you might have to pry and hold with fingers, put the dose in the front of the beak .5ml at a time and let them swallow, repeat until entire dose is given. Done. If you have a spaz chicken, wrap them in a bath towel to help hold them. Wear work clothes, you may be covered in poo and wormer when you are done. :sick

Fecal test came back negative. Would you still recommend treating them all?

Thanks, Mary - no previous history. Just runny poop from at least two girls. I’m now wondering if they have mites? I don’t see any on them (at least the girls I can touch/pickup) and I don’t see them in the nesting boxes. Maybe they are fine and I’m just a worrier??

Forum won’t let me add a photo ... :(

So - the forum is split 50/50 to treat or not treat for worms. Fecal came back negative, then I found this poo today.

Appreciate you all and your input! Treat with Safeguard to no?

Thank you! Do I need to weigh each bird or just give 1ml now and again in 10 days? I also read to give it them 5 days in a row.
Are they all the same breed?
It's .23 ml per pound so if they are all four pounds then 1ml would work.

Can you weigh one or two to be sure you aren't under dosing them?
