I am so sorry to hear this. I will keep praying. I know how hard it is to see them struggle to breathe.she’s getting worse i don’t know if she’ll make it through the night
it wouldn’t be quite as sad if she wasn’t so young she’s only 18 months old

Such a sad, heartbreaking thread. You really went the distance for Poppy and gave her everything you could to give her a good life. I also have a runner duck, Phoebe, that's had ongoing respiratory infections her entire life. She's currently 3 and a half years old and has been on what is now her last resort antibiotics along with terbinafime for about a month now. She's made progress but will probably never breathe quite right again. I've been working with my avian vet to keep her going these past 3+ years and she has had countless vet visits and rounds of meds. All we can do is give them a fighting chance as long as they have fight left in themPoppy went to the big duck pond in the sky . I think it was just too late with the anti fungal meds, perhaps if we had them along with the oxine at the beginning she could’ve been cured. RIP sweet Poppy!! Just buried her next to Cookie

Thank you so much. I recently lost Poppy‘s sister, Willow, to the same thing. She had recovered initially from treatment alongside Poppy, but it came back a year later when I started using some straw in the coop again for winter warmth. Two things I’m doing now with my flocks to prevent respiratory problems are: Not using straw in their coops, and a daily mist (spray above their heads) of the oxine AH mixture. I use pine flakes with some horse stall pine pellets underneath and stall fresh granules to absorb moisture.Such a sad, heartbreaking thread. It is so hard when they have these recurring respiratory problems. I wonder if runners are more prone to them. Phoebe first got very sick when she was young, and it caused permanent damage to her lungs. I only use pine shavings for their bedding, so I think Phoebe's fungal infection is from too much sustained use of antibiotics. I have started mixing in BaicalinThank you so much. I hope Phoebe does well and lives a long wonderful life with you!![]()
thank you so much! I will definitely check it out. Come check this out @Miss Lydia ! I know you appreciate herbal remedies too!It is so hard when they have these recurring respiratory problems. In their food nightly and that has helped keep everyone in better shape. My other 2 girls get respiratory infections too, but not as often or as severe. Now if one of them gets hoarse I put Baicalin pills down their throat 500mg twice a day, and after 5-7 days it clears them right up. Here are a couple of links where you can read up on it and order it at a decent price. It's an herbal supplement.

Phoebe has also been getting Baicalin twice a day in addition to her antibiotics and terbinafine, and I'm pretty sure that's what's helping to keep her going. I hope this helps
Yes! Baikal Skullcap. I'm actually taking an herbal antiviral mix right now from my acupuncturist for this nasty respiratory thing I've been dealing with myself. And one of the ingredients is skullcap! Good for birds and humans alike
Thank you! It's getting a little better every day.I think I am going to get the tincture since I am more comfortable using a syringe to give meds.
I hope you get over your respiratory thing too.
