My 8 chickens that are about 19 weeks old have recently started screaming a lot. I work from home, so I spend a lot of time with them and visit them often in their run and coop during the day. I spend about 4 hours a day with them when they free range. I guess it may be my own fault, but now every time they see me, they start screaming! I don't know what to do because I know my neighbors will definitely start to complain! They SCREAM for me! They crowd in front of each other running and screaming, flapping their wings like a heard of buffalo! It's kind of comical, but I know my neighbors will soon tire of the screams! Please, if anyone knows what I should do, they just started doing this a couple days ago. I feel like crying, because I know if they continue this I will be forced to rehome them and I am so attached to them already. Thank you for any replies.

Best way I know how to stop a screaming chicken is to distract it. Best distraction for a chicken is food. Maybe start tossing a large handful of mealworms or scratch in front of them when they begin the screaming stampede. If they are stuffing their beaks with food they can't be screaming.

Yeah, that’s what you think! They scream for me to hand feed them and ignore what’s on the ground till I walk away, lol!
