SEALING the nesting boxes

I thought my husband and I fixed the leak we were getting where the nesting box roof meets the coop but I just went out to check and it's leaking! What do you all use to seal the gap? Here's a photo to help visualize...

Also... those 2 windows are letting water in at the very top. Do I need to add an awning?

I'm not really sure what you could use. The nesting boxes in the coops I've used are always on the inside.

That's going to be hard to fix without some kind of overhang. It might be easier to move the nest boxes to the back under the overhang and then repair the side where it is now. Is it leaking in around the hinges or where the box meets the wall? If it's leaking in around the hinge I definitely don't see a way to fix it without some overhang. If it's leaking where the box attaches to the wall you could remove it and put some flashing between to divert the water.

Use caulk around the seams of your windows and put a pieace of flashing on the nest boxes that should solve your leaks. good luck.

The nesting box is only leaking from the where the roof hinges... right under those windows. The rest of the box is dry. I'll have to ask DH what flashing is and see what he thinks (if it's even possible to add based on our construction) You think caulk would prevent the windows from leaking too?

had the same problem on mine...Go to lowes or Home depot and buy you a piece of the vinyl baseboard like tyhe use in commercial buildings. Place it over the hinges under a trim board. caulk the trim board and there you have it. Take a look at mine.

Change the nest box so the back wall drops down to open and the roof is static. That would be the surest and easiest fix for that part. Need pictures for the windows.

The easiest solution to waterproof that transition would be a flexible "gracor" or tyvek flashing tape...a six inch wide selef sealing rubber tape that would leave the nest box operational...staple or nail it in place and once the temps hit about 70-degrees it will self seal to wood.

I use it on commercial windows 200-feet up on buildings...I think it would handle a coop.
