Shingles vs Metal Roof

I am working on moving and building a new coop. The coop walls will be LP Smartside (engineered wood material), but I am trying to figure out the roof. I don't know whether to do metal or shingles. I have been weighing pros and cons, but one thing I don't know, is if mites like to hide in shingle crevices? Does anyone have eny info there? I want to make the coop to where it has as few places for mites to hide as possible (no interior walls, and lots of caulking between framing and exterior walls), so I don't know if shingles would undo a lot of my efforts.

Thoughts?

I would worry more about the metal roof heating up the coop in summer. That may not be a problem for you though, just throwing that out. Shingles should not be a problem with mites, they would live inside the coop, not on the roof.

Metal cools quickly, it's not a concern unless there's no ventilation in the coop.

We had a store in Buena park ca. Metal roof over balcony. That roof would hit temps over 160 and was hot. It might cool fast but not while the heat is beating on it. We finally got it painted with a cool coat roof coating dropped 49 degs. Not sure if this helps

What ever is cheapest and easiest.
Where I am, you can find free Shingles on Craigslist here and there.

You will never make a coop that doesn't have crevasses for bugs. I used DE on the floor, under nest boxes and in the tray under the perches (with PDZ). Never had any issues with Mites or any other bugs.
What about sevin dust under the nests instead of DE? I use sand with some pdz mixed in on the floor, and will use the same in a new coop.

That is my concern. I live in South Louisiana, so hot. I am building a lean to overhang off of a barn that will be closed in with welded wire for the run, and I am looking at putting the coop under that overhang. That will give protection from direct sun, and from weather, so shingles might be more long lasting with protection.
