Is charging $50 deposit on the shipping box and an additional $150 for Insurance normal when buying online? I am new to buying baby chicks online, so I’m not familiar with regular practice from hatcheries
Thank you for any advice,
Doreen

$150 for insurance doesn't sound right at all. It would make sense if it was advertising $150 worth of insurance, as that's around what a typical order of chicks might add up to...

$50 for a box sounds closer to shipping an adult or started bird(s). It's been a couple years since I ordered from a hatchery, but most had no box fee and one had a small fee for things that went in the box - grow gel, heat pack, etc.

Where are you looking to order from? Is it a reputable hatchery or breeder?

Who are placing an order with? $50 shipping is normal. Never heard of paying insurance.
Heavenly Acres Farm in TX.

How many are you buying? That smells like some level of price gouging to me if you are just buying a few. You should shop around.
I was only buying two. And they said that I would have them in two days. The insurance they said, was refundable upon delivery, but like you, I thought something was scammy.
