Hi there,Sorry that you lost 2 more chicks. You would be the best judge of knowing whether to raise them yourself in a brooder or not. If another dies you would be stuck raising a single chick, and it would be lonely. If they stay with the broody, she may or may not protect them. Can you bring all 3 of them inside?
How long has she been sitting on the unmatched egg? Did you date them and set them all under her on the same day? Broodies need to take their babies out to forage for food and water by the second or third day. If she is still sitting, they may not be getting enough. Can you give some Poultry NutriDrench or electrolytes with vitamins?
The one that had difficulty hatching over 24hrs I helped hatch in the end last friday night. Then placed him under mom and he did well, got fluffy and such. So she had 4 healthy chicks. Both mom and chicks had access to water and and chick feed.
Then yesterday afternoon I noticed that there was one chick dead. So I brought the mom and three chicks into the house and make another enclosed area with access to water and food. This morning another chick was dead. I believe the hen would not stop “sitting” on them and the chicks weren’t able to get food/water on their own. This is the hens first hatching.. so maybe that is why.
I have now put the hen back in the coop and kept the babies inside. Babies are doing better and the hen is walking around
Coop eating and drinking.
