Show Me Your Chickens

This is Jaelyn. She is almost an entire day old. She was trying to hatch all of yesterday, then her egg disappeared, and reappeared under my Bantam. I’m really confused. I got home very late (midnight) from an event and she was shrinkwrapped and breathing very heavily. I assisted her hatch and now she is an adorable fluffy chick, still wobbly and a bit weak, but I’m positive she’s going to become a beautiful hen of rooster.

I literally just finished reading your situation on the thread you made! I was so hoping she would survive, since I know the pain of losing chicks :fl she turned out beautiful! I have a hen, an EE, that appeared similar as a chick and she is gorgeous! But no matter, hen or rooster, I bet she will be amazing! :hugs

Sorry, this is a lot.
I have five adult chickens, one Rooster named Nada Rooster because i thought it would be ironic to have a hen named Rooster and then he turned into a real rooster.

Then i have Rosie, she's my favorite hen, she's on the bottom of the pecking order and i swear she looks to get into trouble. She's an Ameraucana (half Ameraucana anyway i don't know the other breed, but her sister Daisy is full).

Daisy is the top of my pecking order, a very nice chicken when you are anything but a human. My Easter Egger hen Eyowen tried to kill a little bird once and Daisy fought her off (more like she barked at her and scared Eyo away, nobody messes with Daisy) and let the little bird fly away before exchanging what appeared to be heated words with Eyo. But if you are human she will go out of her way to maliciously peck at your ankles until you leave her personal space. The only reason i keep her around is i think she is just drop dead gorgeous (and somewhere in my heart there is a little corner reserved for Daisy, no matter how rude she gets).

I have my hen Eyowen, i named her after a character in lord of the rings, it fits her nicely. She is a bit of a bully though but Daisy puts her back in her place real quick if Daisy notices her pecking on Rosie. She's very friendly around people though, she comes up on the deck every day at the same time for treats and if i don't bring her some food immediately she pecks at the door non-stop until i pay up.

Here is Freya, my second Easter Egger. Freya never lost her little chick voice so everything she says sounds like a very loud chick. She's very scared of people but once i catch her she will willingly sit with me for hours. She is the dark grey one with the black head.

And then there are the chicks, three total (was four), they turn two weeks old on Monday.

Ginger, my dark cornish. She's very nice and sweet, and her eyes are so dark it's like they stare into your innermost thoughts, she likes to nap on my shoulder.

I have Aunt Darla, my blue white crested polish. Darla gets scared easily but if she thinks i have food suddenly i am her best friend.
and Debora, my porcelain d,uccle bantam. Debbie is a nice chick, she doesn't run away from me but as soon as i pick her up she peeps relentlessly, calling for Ginger to come save her from the scary human.

And i used to have Ozzy my black sumatra, but she passed away one week ago today. I still think she is breathtakingly adorable though.

Here are a few of the chicks we hatched this year - all about 3 months but pics are from a week or two ago. Amber's father is Welsummer and her mother a mix of Americana, Marans, Game Banty, English and Brazilian Game, Wyandotte Banty, Leghorn, Rock, and Hamburg. Mother is blue. I am pretty sure the red is covering up blue on Amber as she has a few blue tail feathers. Mother lays the most intense green eggs so we look forward to seeing what the cross with the Welsummer brown eggs will look like.

Been trying to breed a red barred hen for a while so crossed our crele rooster with a black barred hen and got this lovely. Looking forward to seeing how she looks as an adult

Lasa is a mix of pretty much the same breeds as listed above except no Welsummer. Her mother is splash and her father blue. Since we took this picture she shows more of the blue splash all over.

Nella is Lasa's sister and got the blue coloring instead of the splash.

Lol! She would have been the second of the four not to make it. On the 4th a hen stepped on an egg, crushing it and killing the chick :(. But on a lighter note, yes, she is a beautiful baby with a bright future!
