Show Off Your Games!

F50myster,

You will get quite a mess that will not breed true. Will not take in desired direction. The crosses will be more gamey than birds without recent game in family tree but not as bad a pure games. You would still need to isolate such crossed birds to ensure they do not damage each others feathers which is bad for show. Get pure if possible.

F50myster,
Keep you options open. Go to an event where games are shown and talk to those in know. With those folks you are likely to see birds before you acquire them and you will not feel so pressured. You will also meet real cockers as well, even though they will likely be secure enough not to feel need to tell you they are real cockers.

see thats the problem i cant find them near where i live at shows i only find heritage breeds

Where are you?

Rockytop gamefarm has good stock, I have not seen their birds personally.. But my father knew Mr. Ronnie Amacker, Mr. Ronnie has a lot of good feedback, and I have heard stories of his fowl and also generally know his bloodlines.. But the prices are a little high, I'll say that, though they could be worth it depending on your views of what is worth it and what isn't.

PS.. Ronnie Amacker lives in the southern part of Mississippi, about 3 or so hours from me probably (but not sure.)

F50myster,

California-south: A good number of folks have gamefowl in you area. Probably some good ones. Most I have seen out of California on internet though looked a little rough and to my eyes a result of poor husbandry. It looked like the backyard version of gamecockers, where resources were very limited for keeping birds. Such a source would enable saving on shipping and may allow you to look at many before acquiring your start.

Try Jerold Lawrence with the following link as well (http://www.jblfarm.com/dom.htm). He was very informative for me. He indicated his stock sold largely for show purposes and is a little pricey but it might be worth your time at least seeing what he has. A couple folks also indicated at least some of his stock still game despite bulk of market targetted for show. I think enough of his stock to be planning on perching a dom / crele / barred stag for my purposes.

His pure stock and mixed fowl are great. They are 100% true to gamefowl too, I can say that. I have never met the man, though I have spoken with his wife, but my father knew him personally and was fairly good friends with him from my understanding. I doubt he'd give you a discount though.

I say if you are going to get crossbreeds, go with the Grey Kelso, or Kelso hatch cross.. Grey hatch may be good, but if I got his fowl it'd be the kelso grey and kelso hatch. Probably preferably his doc robinson hatch blood, I don't know where he got the McLean and blueface blood from and have not heard a great deal about it.. But the Doc Robinson blood is good stock for sure.
